Insuring Your RV

Getting insurance for your RV can be a little tricky.  Insuring your RV through your regular automobile insurance provider might not be the way to go.  There are lots of questions you need to ask.  Some insurance providers will refuse to pay claims if they find out that you are full-timing in your RV, or if you park your rig somewhere other than a regular RV park. 

Your regular automobile provider may only provide coverage that is typical for a regular automobile.  You will want to find a company that specializes in RV insurance.  You might want to find a company that covers the contents of your vehicle, external add-ons (such as awnings damaged by wind), higher liability as the large RVs are capable for doing even more damage than regular vehicles, and liability coverage for any claims that might arise from any accidents that might occur at your campsite.

The proper insurance coverage will also have specialized tow insurance, with unlimited mileage.  You will also want to check to make sure that if you have a truck and trailer arrangement be sure that your policy will cover towing of the tow vehicle and the trailer. 

Another insurance need when full-timing is insurance that will reimburse you for living expenses if your rig breaks down and needs repairs that will require you to secure other living arrangements.  You should also ask about trip interruption insurance.  And full vehicle replacement.

You will also want to find a company / policy that replaces your vehicle if it is totaled, or that has a Purchase Price Guarantee, rather than one that just reimburses you for the Actual Cash Value of the vehicle.
